Risky Virtualization

The need of constant and effective IT services in organization is increasing more and more. Optimization of resources from hardware, electricity to office space is critical for companies. Vasil Petkov, IT Manager of a large law office Georgiev, Todorov & Coshares the needs of larger business organizations: “We require in our everyday work high level of reliability, productivity and flexibility of all IT service, as well as our business applications”.

After completing a project for implementation of a solution based on Microsoft Hyper-V  and Clustering in Georgiev, Todorov & Co, which decreases the number of physical machines, management expenses and better effectiveness and reliability of the IT services, ITCE showed again its competency in the field of virtualization by participating in the forum “Green technologies and virtualization”.

The lecture was delivered by Ivailo Tzenkov, Infrastructure consultant at ITCE. The topic “Risky Virualization” examined the major challenges that occur when using virtualization and the best practices for turning the threats into business benefits.

Short description of the lecture

It turned out that the major threat from virtualization in the organization it the incorrect or the lack of virtualization machine and hosts management. This leads to infinitely increasing number of virtual machines, decrease in productivity, inability to properly configure, backup and patch them with the latest updates – which will eventually decrease the virtualization benefits to zero.

The solution of this problem is to use a package of products that are especially designed to work in synchronization and are aimed to provide full and centralized management of numerous hosts and virtual machines and what is more, this is done automatically. An example for a package is the combination of Hyper-V, SCVMM and SCOM – combination which entirely copes with the virtualization management needs and gives additional opportunities. The capabilities of SCOM are not only for monitoring of platforms of virtualization of Microsoft.

Ivailo Tzenkov has participated in numerous project for design, migration and implementation of infrastructure services and applications in banks and telecom operators. His main responsibilities at ITCE are to provide consulting services for optimization of IT infrastructure and IT processes. Ivailo has the following certifications: Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator за Windows Server 2003, Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT) and Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) in a few technologies, including virtualization.
