Agile Analysis and Design Training Sequence

| 5 half days |

From ideation to realization: this training sequence will enable you and your team to effectively develop, plan, initiate and execute real time projects.

Enabling teams in the successful implementation of ideas in their working context.

Flow, storytelling, and immediate outcomes

The program begins with fundamentals of agile, team formation, and clarifying the business case which is to be worked on throughout the analysis and design journey. The business case is a real-time project or assignment that needs to be initiated and realized at the participants’ company.

After establishing this basis for continuous work, each self-preparation and team assignment serves as input for the upcoming instructor-led sessions. This allows immediate application of the new knowledge, maximized customization of the sequence to fit the client’s needs, as well as guided ongoing progress on the selected real-time business case.

Blended learning approach

The training sequence is a mix of live instructor-led sessions, self-preparation, and team assignments. During the live sessions, participants are equipped with the necessary knowledge and tools for their self- and team preparation. Each workshop of the sequence is then customized based on the self-preparation and assignments.

The live instructor-led sessions can take place either online or in-person, the self-study activities include the preparation of individual labs and the study of an online course, and the team assignments involve group work in sub-teams determined at the beginning of the program.

Here is what you will learn over the 5-week period of the program, in the form of half-day workshops and self-preparation sessions:

  • Week 1: Program Kick-off Workshop (1-1,5 hours):

The focused work on a real-time project starts with a kick-off workshop session, where the common context of the program is set up:

    – Participants introduction – getting to know each other, setting objectives
    – The sub-teams are formed
    – The curriculum is reviewed and clarified
    – The funnel idea concept is presented and explained
  • Week 1: Agile Fundamentals Workshop (optional)

This workshop has the purpose of aligning the knowledge and understanding of the agile methodology within the team who takes part in the program and covers the following topics:

    – Key concepts, values and mindset of the agile methodology
    – The agile process
    – Agile tools and adaptive planning
    – Agile value and product delivery
    – Business agility enablers
  • Week 2: Self-preparation activities #1

After the kick-off session, sub-teams begin the focused work on their project, which is to gather data and send it to the trainers before the next live session. This involves the activities of creating a survey and conducting interviews with their target group.
  • Week 2: Gathering Requirements Workshop

This workshop is focused on understanding customer/target group needs. It has the purpose of converting the project idea into an epic through:

    – Analysis of the results from the self-preparation
    – Research current context and knowledge
    – Identifying stakeholders
    – Gather more information
    – Refining the funnel idea into an epic
  • Week 3: Self-preparation activities #2

Applying the new knowledge and understanding of the refined epic and gathering requirements, the sub-teams are now to create their customer/stakeholder personas and add them to the collaboration board.
  • Week 3: Modeling Requirements Workshop

This session aims to model the main project work process using the Business Process Modelling Notation (BPMN) framework and principles by covering:

    – The user/customer journey map
    – What is the BPMN framework
    – C4 Application architecture model
    – Entity data model
  • Week 4: Self-preparation activities #3

Following the Modeling Requirements Workshop, the sub-teams are now to design the project/initiative processes using the BPMN modelling approach and publish them.
  • Week 4: From Requirements to Functionalities Workshop

This workshop session aims to generate a project back-log which is ready for planning through the following activities:

    – Splitting the Epic into features
    – Adding acceptance criteria to features
    – Estimating the features and adding business values
    – Sequencing the backlog with user stories
  • Week 5: Self-preparation activities #4

At this stage of the program, the sub-teams are working to achieve all features to have their own acceptance criteria and having the user stories created and added to the Team Kanban.
  • Week 5: Test, test, 123 Workshop

In this final workshop of the program, the team is to prepare for continuous development, work and implementation of their project. Therefore, the following topics are covered:

    – Testing strategy and plans
    – User stories and test cases
    – Validation of acceptance criteria and definition of done (DoD)
    – Defect management and lifecycle
    – Quality and performance metrics

Scope and customization opportunities?

As the Agile Analysis and Design Training Sequence is designed for closed groups with the purpose of working on specific real-time projects, the following scope and customization opportunities remain:

  • Topics can be added on or removed based on the current state and context of the client’s initiatives and teams.
  • The training sequence can be planned and executed for multiple teams within the company, allowing progress and development of more complex and scaled projects.
  • Additional training and consulting services can be arranged as a follow-up

The training sequence is suitable for any teams and individuals who want to or are already adapting the agile way of work. This includes, but is not limited to, business analysts, product owners and managers, process owners and managers, project managers.

The blended approach refers to dedicated time in instructor-led sessions and dedicated time in self-preparation, outside of the classroom.

In the case of this training sequence, the dedicated time for instructor-led training is about 30 hours, and the dedicated time for self-preparation is equal to 20 hours at minimum.

The Agile Analysis and Design training Sequence is a great solution in the following cases:

  • Teams and organizations, which are in the middle of their SAFe transformation and are in the process of building their way of work using the agile principles.
  • Teams and organizations which are interested in adopting the agile way of work, as the training sequence can serve as a practical demo predecessor of a Scaled Agile (SAFe) transformation.
  • Teams and organizations who are currently planning and/or developing new projects and initiatives.

There are no knowledge and/or skill prerequisites for the training. The only mandatory pre-requisite is logistical: for a minimum number of 8 participants per sequence.
